Their own tagline is "the little dive bar with the best craft beer selection in Charleston," and it's true in a way that should be annoying. It's a dive - no question about that, it's been voted Best West Ashley Bar for years and it runs like one - but the tap list is long enough to genuinely take time to pick from, and they push local and import bottles in a way a normal dive doesn't bother with. There's a full bar behind it, a small arcade for the kids, pool, darts, shuffleboard, and board games at the tables, so the whole family can sit at the same spot and not be a problem.
The food is the part I didn't expect to keep coming back to. The Avondale burger, the bratwurst, the fried veal chop with potato cakes - it's all bar food, but it's bar food that was actually thought about. It's a little pricey for a dive, and the service gets thin when it fills up, but the room stays fun. We went with a five-year-old who declared it his favorite restaurant, which I think is the real review.
