It's the rooftop at the Grand Bohemian, and the name - French for "elevated" - is doing a lot of the describing. The room is elegant where it should be and a little playful where it shouldn't have to be: chandeliers and a lit-up marble bar inside, then a garden terrace out front with colorful chairs, day loungers, and what is essentially turf carpeting underfoot. It overlooks the cobblestone streets of downtown, which is the kind of view that justifies the whole trip up. The drinks are coastal and a little French at the same time - inventive, on the stylish side, and backed by a healthy wine list - and the happy hour is one of the better deals on a rooftop, with $9 specialty cocktails and $2 raw oysters in the afternoon.
The food is the other reason to be up there, but the bar is where you end up on a warm evening: a glass of wine or a signature cocktail, the light going gold over the rooftops, and a crowd that mixes hotel guests with locals who know the elevator code. It's on the upscale side, though not absurdly so, and it's the kind of room that looks as good as it actually is.
