John King Grill & Dueling Piano Bar

Makenzie ยท

It's a smash burger restaurant that happens to be, most nights, the loudest and most fun room on King Street, and it knows exactly what it is. Two pianos, two performers, every request honored, running Wednesday through Saturday from 8 p.m. to as late as 1 a.m., and the whole room leans in and sings. It's become the default stop for bachelor and bachelorette parties in the city, which you can feel the moment you walk in - it's loud, it's celebratory, and the drink prices are set for exactly that kind of night. There's a cover charge on show nights, which not everyone loves, but the show genuinely runs for two hours and the bartenders keep up.

The food is the thing they actually obsess over: hand-smashed fresh beef with crispy lacy edges on toasted brioche, cooked to order on a hot flat top, with craft cocktails built to pair. Happy hour is 4 to 7 Monday through Friday if you want to get there before the party crowd. The burgers are good and the cocktails are better than you'd expect from a dueling piano bar. Come for the show, stay because the drink you just ordered was actually good.
