Garage 75

Makenzie ยท

Garage 75 is James Island's answer to a place where the whole family can sit down and actually have a good time. It's a food-and-drink spot with billiards and an adult arcade in the next room, and the room is clean, casual, and easy - the kind of place where a kid can be playing a video game while the parents are on their second round of appetizers without anyone feeling out of place. The owner, Reeves Tinkler, runs a tight ship, and the food shows it: the ribeye and the Lowcountry steak sandwich are the dishes people keep pointing to, and the fish and chips and chicken sandwiches come out consistently good.

It's a sports bar first and a restaurant second, so there are screens and the crowd is local - James Island regulars, families, and the occasional tourist who's found their way over from downtown. The price point is casual, the wings deal on Thursdays is the kind of thing people plan their night around, and it's open till 2 a.m. every night of the week. It's not the most interesting place on the list, but it's reliable in a way that most sports bars aren't, and it does the billiards and the steak without either of them having to apologize for the other.
